4 Benefits of Using Flash Animation in a Website Design

If you are developing a website to promote your products or service and make money, attractive website design is the most important factor that decides whether your goals will be fulfilled or not. Just like a profit earning retail store in your local market, you need to present your website in such a way that it attracts the web users.

There are already thousands of websites selling the same products as yours and the competition is very tough. You need to come up with something interesting to attract the potential consumers. These days web users surf the internet for hours to find a unique site and the more they search, they find similar designs in different websites. To make your website interesting and unique you can use Flash animation in your website design. An attractive Flash header design or a great Flash intro design helps you to look different from other websites in your niche.

Here are some of the benefits of using Flash in your website.

  1. Brand promotion is very important for making a business successful. In this crowded marketplace, you need to establish your brand to earn the loyalty of your customers. Flash animation can make your brand memorable to your potential customers. For instance, logo is a very important element of your brand identity and instead of normal logo you can use a Flash animated logo in your website to make your brand noticeable.

  2. People don't like a static website. Flash design allows you to make the site interactive and interesting. If you write lengthy articles on your website to describe your business and the services you are offering, the users won't be interested to read them. Web users have less patience than print media users and you have to offer them the information in a way that can appeal them. You can add Flash animation in your website to break the monotonous nature of your site and encourage the users to check all the pages in your website.

  3. If you sell various products from your online store, you can give them a glimpse of your products from the home page with the help of Flash. When you use an animated slideshow of the products on your homepage, the users get to know about your products without visiting the "products" page. It helps you to introduce your products faster to your target audience and encourage them to buy an item.

  4. The faster you relay an idea to your target audience, the more beneficial it's for you. For instance, if you are offering graphic design services to your audience, then instead of showing them the advantages of graphic design and USP of your company in text format, you can use Flash video to send the message faster. Your audience will pay more attention to your message when they get it in a dynamic process. However, make sure that whatever Flash files you use in your website are lightweight and optimized for faster loading. If the customers have to wait for a long time just to watch the video, they will leave the site.

If you use Flash animation successfully in your website, you will certainly capture the users' attention. Use Flash header, give flash banner advertisements and increase your website's popularity.

Animation: How to Develop Something New

You went to animation school, and created many animated projects. Suddenly, you've run out of ideas. It's not easy to come up with consistently fresh ideas for animation. Sometimes you hit a writer's block of sorts with the feeling that you may not come out of it.

It definitely helps if you constantly sketch ideas and keep them on file. Even if you feel that you've run out of ideas it's always good to go back and revisit the old ones you've put on the side for they can come in handy.

After I graduated from animation school, I managed to work on a variety of animations that did pretty well. Then I was trying to create something new and I felt like I hit a wall. None of my ideas worked, everything looked cheap and corny and wasn't at the same level as other things I'd designed. I went back to my files and looked up old sketches and concepts, but nothing inspired me. Even sitting down and drawing new things didn't work. It was as if my creative streak had come full stop.

If something like this happens to you, the first thing to do is to take a deep breath and relax. You can't force an idea; in most cases if you force something it's not going to be what you want which will make you even more frustrated. Best thing to do in this case, if you can swing it, is to take a break and clear your head. That's often easier said than done, because of other obligations you might have, but even the greatest writers, musicians and filmmakers have experienced this.

After a few weeks of clearing my head, I forced myself to go through my files of sketches and unused characters, thinking I might find some form of inspiration. A few of the drawings intrigued me and I remembered what I was taught in animation school about never throwing away any sketches or ideas. So, I tinkered with some of these ideas and eventually came up with a few ideas for some animations. I wasn't happy at first, yet I kept at it and eventually came up with a few rudimentary tests that I would later expand upon.

There's nothing wrong with recycling an idea. In animation school it was made clear that old ideas can be the source of new, even better ones. It's also a matter of having the patience to go through old ideas that you may think are lame and thinking how to improve upon them. It's the same as if you've been writing a script of a novel; you get tired of it and put it away, only to return to it and finish it later.

Sometimes revisiting old ideas can be a liberating experience. The pressure of having to create something can be bewildering and constricting in your ability to create something new. Animation schools want you to create new and inventive ideas, but if you've having trouble creating new ideas, you should take the time to revisit any old ideas you may have lying around as they can inspire you to tweak them and design something new.

Get Your Career Started in 3D Animation

When you were a small child were you fascinated with animated movies? Would you sit mesmerized in front of the television watching your favorite animated show? Did you spend your free time drawing or found yourself doodling during class? Well, I'm sure you are already aware you fit this description, then you are in love with animation.

Now, that we have that covered, what really brings you to this page? It's because you want to pursue a career in 3D animation, but where to begin?

To work for Disney is probably your ideal dream come true. To work for Disney as a 3D animator is prestigious and certainly not impossible. Most people that work for Disney showed signs of artistic talent at a young age. If you were determined at creating art during your childhood and now as an adult you still have that passion, w deserves a big congratulations. Animation, especially 3D animation takes time and dedication. You have probably heard a lot of people criticize your work, but the fact that you had perseverance and you kept going gives you an upper hand to nailing your job. It involves heart and that is a part of who you are.

A college degree in 3D animation is another plus to have when trying to get a job in in the field. Education is so important, especially in this day and age. However, if you don't have a college degree but chose to take some additional classes to brush up on your animation skills that is suitable as well.

From these classes, not only will you get experience and a degree/certificate but also you will build your portfolio for an amazing reel. Reels are often required along with a resume and cover letter before you even get the chance to interview. Reels can be very confusing because there is so many rules as to what the director will be looking for. For starters make sure you take your best work. I know that seems obvious but put your best work first. Also make sure your reel isn't too long. I would say around 4 minutes max is a good amount of time to demonstrate your skills.

The beauty of animation is there are many different routes to take in the industry; from film, to gaming, to television. According the U.S. Bureau of Labor Statistics, the average 3D animation salary is $56,000. It is also said the expected growth rate since 2008 was 12%. Because multimedia is new, even with the fall of the economy the entertainment industry is still thriving, so that is definitely a positive.

Best of luck on your journey to finding a career in 3D animation. Be confident in your creations and you will be sure to go far.

How to Write a Motion Graphics Design Or Animation Treatment

Give Yourself the best chance of winning the Design or Animation project with these guidelines

The Title & Introduction

The very first thing you will write on any treatment is the name of the project, so it is highly advisable to make sure you get this part correct. When taking a brief it is always a good idea to take as detailed notes as possible about all aspects of the project including the people involved, key words, reference material, technical aspects or limitations, audio preferences and project working titles. These notes will assist when putting the basics into a treatment, and showing your fullest understanding of the brief, like the correct title, or key words that the client was at pains to describe the project with.

Once you have a clean leading page with the clients name, the name of the project, and any subtitle, you are ready to add the first and most important body of text, the introduction or approach.

The introduction, outline, premise or approach to a treatment is a vital and concise 2 or 3 line paragraph, clearly telling the reader what it is they are about to read, and the reason for reading it. Ideally this paragraph will 'grab' the reader immediately and tweak their interest, wanting to read the rest of the document.

The Writing Style

The use of descriptive language is an important part of the art of all writing, no less with treatments, where you ideally need to squeeze all the information into one or two sides of a4 paper to paint a clear picture in the readers mind's eye of exactly what they can expect the final film or animation to look like.

When describing your concept, try and use flowing and elegant phrasing while being descriptive and to the point. A wide use of vocabulary will keep the reader interested and their brain visualising the result.

For example, The brief is for a television crime drama title sequence, and the Director wants the style of the title sequence to reflect the period, atmosphere and subject matter of the script. The Director may use quite descriptive words in a brief like, dark or chilling, ensure to re-use these words in your treatment and add some of your own to further embellish. For example; dark foreboding blackness, or chilling, spine jarring finale.

Try not to repeat the same word too many times, and think of alternative ways to describe the same or similar part of the project. For example; when mentioning a transitional effect in the animation or film, try and find new ways to write about that effect.

Your Branding

Ensure that your business, company or studio logo and branding is clearly marked on the front of the treatment, as well as the body of the treatment to ensure that all who read it will know where it is from and who wrote it. It will also help ensure your ideas stay as your own and are not borrowed by someone else. Another consideration is to flatten your document to ensure that the logo and graphics are displayed correctly and no one is able to edit your treatment or take paragraphs for re purposing into another document. Saving your MS Word or other word processor document as an Adobe Acrobat PDF file is an ideal way of achieving this.

The Concept

This is the main body of text where you can flesh out the idea in more detail. It is important to ensure that this paragraph is easy to read and to the point. Use this part of the treatment as a way of quickly describing the rest of the information that you eloquently touched on in your Introduction. Try and keep the sentences brief with enough space around them to be absorbed easily. Allow the sentences to flow together easily to ensure the reader does not get lost partway through, it is vital that your idea makes sense from start to finish giving your reader the chance of constructing the piece in their own minds eye.

Imagery

Consider including images to assist your concept.

You will probably be producing a storyboard separately to your treatment, but using additional reference images, character illustrations, environment and backgrounds or mood board images in your treatment can really help the reader to grasp what you are saying. Positioning the images is also important, breaking up the paragraphs can lose the readers flow, so try adding an image or series of images under a paragraph.

Using a large image under the Introduction can act as a real eye grabber for the rest of the document.

Reference Material

Reference material is key to helping sell your idea, especially if you can reference your own past work. It is another chance to showcase your work and give the client every confidence in your ability to deliver what you are writing about. References can be web links, embedded links, images, sounds, music tracks, illustration or video. If possible, try and collate it all into one place, an ftp location, a website, a file share location or as zipped attachments to make it easy for the client to explore your references and not have to go to many different internet sites. Again, keeping the treatment easy to read, follow and absorb is paramount.

The Technical Breakdown

The technical section of a treatment should be very factual, very brief and very clear. The clarity will, once again, illustrate to the reader that you have carefully thought the process through and understand exactly what it will take to achieve the finished result. You will always be able to change your thinking with kit later, but at least at this early stage you have approached the idea with a way of technically creating your masterpiece. This paragraph will also illustrate your ability to handle both aspects of any motion graphics project, creativity and technical knowhow, the core components to any motion graphics designer.

Think about outlining what and how many computers you will need, how much disk storage space and backup will be required, which software packages will you be using and are there any specific plug-ins or presets that are relevant. Also take into account the amount of rendering time and hardware that will be needed, archiving considerations, and final delivery formats and other delivery aspects.

Music and Audio

As we all know, music and sound effects can really bring animation and video to life and is a major part of any visual experience. Touch on ideas you have for the music and sound design, include references to other similarly styled videos and describe the tone and atmosphere that the music will evoke with your visuals.

The Budget & Estimated Costs

Costs and quotes are also a huge factor in whether you will succeed in getting the project you desire, but refrain from including any mention of money in the treatment. Instead provide a separate quotation document including any reference to technical or creative specifics in the treatment.

The Conclusion / Summary

The final part of your treatment should act in a similar way to the introduction.

It is a short paragraph that allows you to quickly remind the reader of the key points you discussed in the rest of the document. It is also a chance to use good language to leave the reader wanting to see what you have described, wanting to explore further, wanting to make it come to life.

List of Components

INTRODUCTION - short and sweet

CONCEPT - main descriptive body of text

IMAGES - reference material

TECHNICAL - geeky but essential breakdown

AUDIO - style and reference guide

SUMMARY - the final roundup

Five Things That Impact The Value Of Animation Art

Most Americans have grown up watching and loving cartoons. Needless to say, I am one of them, so you can only imagine my joy when I discovered that I could actually have a "real" Bugs Bunny or Mickey Mouse painting or cel, as they are known, to decorate my walls. Animation art can sell anywhere between $5.00 upwards into the tens of thousands. So what makes one piece more valuable than others?

There are five major factors that impact the value of animation art. They are:

The Studio
The movie or cartoon
Character and position
Scene
Type of animation art

The Studio:
The animation studio is considered the artist not the individual animators. It is important when making comparisons that similar studios are used according to the reputation, style of animation and the general output of successful cartoons that were created.

Disney is the big name in animation with Warner Bros a close second followed by such companies as Hanna Barbera, and DePatie Freleng. Most of these studios have made innovations in the style, technique and advancement of animation. They have decades of creating successful animation films, iconic characters and television cartoons. Very few studios can compare to these giants.

Movie or Cartoon, time period:
The popularity of the cartoon and the time period that it was created in also affects the value consideration. The time from when Disney started through the 1940's is considered their Golden years, and the Vintage years are from the 1950's to 1967.

Character and position:
Just like the leading lady and man earn the most, the major characters in cartoons are the most sought after and are more valuable than secondary characters.

The position of the character contributes to the desirability of the art. The production of the cartoon necessitates many scenes in which the back of the characters, the characters are very small or are in other unusual positions so that there is smooth motion in the cartoon. Although these pieces are important in the creation of the cartoon, they are visually unappealing to the collector.

Scene:
There are some scenes in cartoons or animation films that become defining moments. Most cartoons do not have one. An example of one is from Fantasia by Disney Studios when Mickey is on the mountain top. This scene is the most memorable and visually exciting moment of the movie. Animation art of Mickey on the mountain top is worth more than he is from other scenes from this same movie. Lady & the Tramp has one of these moments which is the spaghetti eating scene.

Type of Animation Art:
There is a hierarchy in desirability of the types of animation art. The order of desirability listed with the most desirable first is:

A set with the production cels, production backgrounds and matching drawings
A set with production cels & production background
A set with production cels and matching drawings
Production cel or production background
Pencil drawing used to create cel, aka animator's pencil drawing
Storyboard or layout drawing
Model cels
All other items
There are also non-production pieces such as hand painted limited edition cels and sericels.

These characters, cartoons and animation movies have brought such joy and laughter to our lives. Collecting animation art brings these wonderful memories to your home.

All Aspects and Areas of 3D Animation Applications

3D Animation certainly became the new fad this year with box office hits such as The Lion King 3D, Toy Story 3, as well as Puss in Boots, just to name a few. 3D Animation technology is growing and expanding everyday and has surpassed the movies. There are more and more outlets for animators to choose from such as 3D Animation Applications. Let's explore some other avenues that 3D animators can take on. Or, if you are not an animator but enjoy 3D animation, take a look at some other areas where it is applied.

Video Games:

The video game industry is similar to the movie industry where stories and scenarios can be created. The only difference is the player creates the outcome. 2D video games have recently become a thing of the past. Now there are graphic animations that almost look real such as; World of Warcraft, Call of Duty, and Madden. Not only is 3D animation applied in these video games but also they are very detail oriented and truly give a whole new demeanor of playing. If you are an animator looking to create a video game, there is free software you can download for more casual video game development. These include 3D Adventure Studio, and RPG Maker XP. If you are thinking about becoming a hardcore game designer you may want to try these software programs; The 3D Game maker and Game Studio.

Maps and Tourism

Who needs a flat map when you can actually see where you are going with 3D maps? People are now able to get a better understanding of their destination by physically viewing the geographical location. It truly is an amazing advancement in technology. I am putting my money on 3D animated GPS navigation devices. I think those are probably in the works right about now. 3D animation is taking over.

Architecture

Not only is 3D animation fun for gamers and tourism but also in the architecture industry. Now architects can map their structure to a T by seeing the final product before a brick is laid or wall is assembled. 3D graphics now bring the idea and imaginary visual to life. Blueprints become visually realistic in programs like Autodesk, Photo Modeler, and Maya. Not only is 3D animation helpful for the designer but it helps sell ideas to potential investors as well. If investors can see the final product on a screen before it is built, it allows them to make a clear decision on the overall project.

Education

3D Animation has been greatly applied to education. It serves as an excellent learning tool for students and especially those who are visual learners. With 3D programs, specifically those in the medical field, they can get a better understanding of what the real life experiences will be like.

Pursue your 3D animation dreams because there is no better time than now to get involved in the industry. If you are a fan of 3D, make sure you explore the other applications of 3D animation and not just going to the movies to wear the funky glasses!

Why 3D Animation is So Popular

As more and more artists are using computers to create animations, 3D animations are becoming quite popular. Earlier only the artists of a few big companies had access to the software required to create a 3D animation movie. However, today more people are getting access to these software and more companies are using these for various reasons. These days even mobile phones with 3D display screens are being developed.

To understand how 3D animation is created, you will have to understand how 2D animation works. Before the age of computers, artists drew slides with the slightly altered images and then displayed the series of slides one after another. For example, if the artist wanted to show a ball falling; then they would draw the ball a little lower in the second slide, and even lower in the third slide and so one. When the slides were presented at a certain speed, the illusion of the moving ball was created.

The problem with this method was that was time consuming and tedious. Soon the time required for the creation of the frames was reduced because the computers could be programmed to create the frames between the initial and final positions of objects. The artist would have to only make correction if required or add other elements to the frames. The option of the copy paste function also ensured that much of the work could be done quickly.

However, the motion pictures created using the 2D techniques were not really up to the mark because they these did not look realistic enough. 3D animation made it possible for the movies to look more natural and thus this technology has been adopted in spite of the fact that it is more difficult to make such a movie.

The first step in 3D animation is character sketching. The artist sketches images of the characters from as many angles as possible so that the character modeler can create the 3D model. Then the character modeler chooses from a variety of methods to sculpt the model pretty much in the same way a sculptor uses clay or stone to make a real sculpture. The only difference is that this done on a virtual platform.

After this, the scene is built and the characters are set into motion by the animator who uses software to create the illusion of movement by giving the initial and final positions of the desired movements.

Since this creates a more lifelike movie, people like to watch it. Naturally, it is becoming one of the most popular modes of movie making.

3Dmirage is a consulting company, highly recommended to those who are in need of execution of 3D animation projects.

Popular Forms of Animation Used in Media Today

3D computer graphics

The advanced technique of graphic designing is the 3D computer design which gives the 3 dimensional illusions for the designs using the geometrical data. It also uses the light, wind and other effects to give a realistic view of the graphic. It is mostly used in entertainment world especially movies to design artificial environment. Movies like Avatar, used the 3D graphics using various software like Maya that on rendering gives a realistic 3 dimensional illusion of the sketch. The stages of 3D designing are modeling, layout and animation, and rendering. Often it is a time-consuming process.

Architectural animation

Architectural animation is used for the designing of the proposed architecture or a building. This is used to provide a view of the final product with a realistic vision of how it looks. Unlike the traditional blue print which is in sketch model, or 2D designing, the architectural animation provides a 360 degree view of the building inside and out thus able to know how it looks and to understand the strategic points of the building. The software used in designing the animation are Autodesk maya, CAD, CAM.

Graphic designing

Graphic design is an art of combining words, symbols, images etc to communicate a visual impact or a message to the target audience. The common graphic designing can be seen in sign boards, logos, brand image, websites, publishing, advertisement and product packaging. The graphic artist is a creative person who designs a new design for the client according to their requirement. With the development of computer and animation, it is much easier to design the graphics. It is often used in entertainment and business world. The graphic designing is now also done using 3D which is called as 3D graphics.

Motion capture

Motion capture is a technique of capturing the movements of the actors and transforming them in to the 2D or 3D animated characters. The technology used is highly sophisticated and is not easily available for small productions. The cost of handling the environment and the transformation is also too costly. But the end result which transforms the human action on to the animated characters is highly realistic. By rendering the computer generated environment and add-on features, the movie can be highly realistic. An example of the motion capture can be seen in the movies like Beowulf, Avatar, Sindbad etc.

Skeletal animation:

The skeletal animation is a form of animation which uses the skeleton design to render the movement of the animation. It is called the animation of the vertebrates that gives very flexible realistic movement for the animation. In this the parent skeleton bone is designed and then the child nodes are added to it. It is called the hierarchy which using the laws of physics act when the parent moves, the related child node also moves, thus providing the full control over the skeleton. It plays an important part on the animation techniques like motion capture.

Some Types of Animation Software

One thing that you'll come across in animation school is the different kinds of software that are available. As technology has evolved over the decades, it's become relatively easy to create any kind of animation with computer software.

Computers at first didn't exist for animation purposes; they were geared more towards engineering and calculating purposes. Yet, as the technology eventually developed, it allowed for the ability to use graphics in a way that few imagined.

One of the first computer graphic tools was the Sketchpad, which was developed in the early 1960s. The Sketchpad used a light pen with a photoelectric cellto create images on a computer screen. Even more revolutionary, the image could actually be saved. Future developments based on the Sketchpad, such as the Wacom tablet, has become popular in animation schools as an invaluable tool for creating graphics and animation.

Most animation software has made it easier for animators and filmmakers to enhance their productions. Look at a movie for example; back in the day shooting a crowd scene would involve thousands of extras and hours upon hours of work. With animation software, you can eliminate the man hours it would take to orchestrate crowds and the actual physical shooting. Sure, it takes a bit longer to design everything, but it also eliminates location scouting as everything can be done within the computer. Also, if you're using state of the art software in animation school, you have more flexibility to create something incredibly realistic.

If you're thinking of attending an animation school, but don't have much experience, you may want to explore a program like Adobe Flash. This is a great program if you're just starting out, as it allows you to make easy animations with a fair amount of options, including video as well as if you're creating something for the internet. Flash has become incredibly popular for its multimedia capabilities and accessibility.

Sometimes the technology can be a bit overwhelming, but if you take the time to get an understanding of how animation software works it can greatly help you develop a style and make the actual process less time consuming. Animation schools are great for giving you the ability confront these programs head on, allowing you to find your niche.

Don't be afraid of trying new programs. Experimenting with different kinds of software can also be beneficial in helping you develop your animating skills. If you're interested in 3D animation, then programs like MAYA, 3D Max, Lightwave 3D and XSI might be worth checking out as they have great capacity for creating projects in 3D, especially if you're a first time animator.

It greatly depends of what kind of look you want and how extensive a design you have. Some of these programs may be great if you're working on something complicated, but you may also want to give Flash a whirl if you want to do something basic.

However, if you're planning on attending an animation school, you'll more than likely have the opportunity to play around with these programs.

Why Animation Is So Popular

Animation in video production has changed the way we view things. Remember those black and white movies? They were boring, weren't they? No slow motion, no cool explosions, no realistic special effects... They had good drama you say? Moving on...

Animated videos have spread like wildfire within the big video production companies like Pixar or Disney, but also amongst the lower budget, independent movie makers. In fact, it is so common, people would be surprised to watch a movie without animation nowadays.

But why is animation so liked? What's so appealing about it?

It lets us see things we could usually never see. Animation helps in many aspects of video production. If you have an action film and you need a building exploding in the background, it's much easier to do it over After Effects.

But action films aren't the only candidate. Informational videos make effective use of animation, too. For example, an animated series teaching quantum physics is much easier to understand, as we can see the quantum particles without actually having to get a very big microscope, or we can check out stars and galaxies without having to go to an observatory. We are fascinated by these things, and animation makes it possible for us to enjoy them in an entertaining way.

It also gives filmmakers a creative edge. We can now look into the human body when a doctor performs surgery on someone, or we can watch the scene of a post apocalyptic world where zombies have wiped out everything. Watch a Tim Burton movie like Alice in Wonderland and you see the potential of animation being used and what kind of an experience it is.

We can be transported into a completely different world we would have never been able to create without animation. Star Wars is a classic example. Something like that will probably never happen, but we like to imagine it. And what better way to imagine than through a movie?

Vimeo is a site where you will find a lot of animation, just because it is a medium of its own and people have learned how to use it to perfection. Animation lets someone create a piece of video art exactly how they visualized it in a cheap, efficient manner. After Effects can be yours for a fraction of the cost of having to buy a good camera, hiring actors and building the set to realize that dream you had.

Animation has changed the video genre massively. We are always looking for ways to visualize things in a way that is new, unheard of, and fun. And this is a very easy way for anyone (with some training) to chip in. People can do whatever they want, and that is the ultimate goal with animation. Do whatever you want.

The History of Animation and Flipbooks

It never hurts to know how and where the things we love so much today actually began. For just about all of us, young and old, we absolutely adore the art of animation that we see in so many cartoons and very popular movies. And, just about everyone has played with a flipbook, at one time or another. But, have we ever sat and thought about who actually took the time to come up with the flipbook or the art of animation? Probably not.

The same goes for numerous other entities of life. The people who deserve credit for such amazing and interactive creations go totally unnoticed. Nowadays, individuals are more concerned with the entertainment and amusement behind things, not the background of where it began and how it was possible for it to all come together.

This History of Animation

Animation is a variety of artistic design that is responsible for making drawn images shift and come to life. It is a system in which still images are given the "chance" to perform as we do here in actual life. The earliest forms of animation were discovered a small over five thousand years ago. Except during this time, animation was not as strong and depicting as we recognize it to be today. Rather, it was drawn images of animals and humans alike that possessed numerous sets of legs and arms in which was an attempt to produce them arise to be touching.

During this time, there were no accurate forms of accoutrements that could actually take what the artist had drawn and situate it into "movement. So, the artist had to stick with what they drew. Surprisingly enough, Leonardo da Vinci had a portion to play in the background of animation. He was responsible for creating drawings of the upper half of the human body that depicted how it looks when it moves and turns at reliable angles. His task was published in Anatomical Studies of the Muscles of the Neck, Shoulder, Chest, and Arm; one of the two folios of the Windsor Collections.

The History of Flipbooks

A flipbook is a little book that contains multiple, little drawings that are really slight in change that when flip (the pages are turned fast, the drawings come to move. The flipbook is believed to have been developed sometime during the nineteenth century, around 1868. It was first referred to as a Kineograph, which means moving picture. This name was coined by John Barnes Linnet, a nineteenth century artist and film pioneer.

Flipbooks are now really celebrated as toys for young children. Flipbooks played a vital part in the formation of cinema and unusual, vintage books are now a collector's item. While the use of flipbooks has died out drastically as the years have progressed, they are still making an appearance in several types of marketing. Flipbooks used to be offered in boxes of Cracker Jacks as prizes for children and adults alike. Flipbooks were a more normal method of telling a story with genuinely no words at all.

The Beginner's Guide to Computer Animation - 3D Animation Software

Anyone that enjoys art and loves cartoons will most likely be intrigued with animation and find computer animation fascinating. Animation came alive with 2D animation then moved on into 3D, which has now become the way of the animation world. It would never have evolved to this point without the success of the 2D. In fact, it is still dependent on the skills required for 2D to be applied to 3D animation. Therefore, where you hear someone say the 2D animation is mundane then do not give it a second thought.

In modern technology where almost everyone is on computers at some point of time it is unlikely they will not be exposed to some type of animation . It must not be forgotten that animation is not just restricted to cartoon characters.

To put it simply any moving image that has been made to do so by the computer is computer animation. The technique used is a way to create the illusion of movement one image on the screen quickly is replaced by another one that is almost identical to the first one but not exact. It happens this same way with other media such as television and movies. Most often, this is accomplished with 3D computer graphics and the results are directed to the computer, but it could be for movies as well. You may hear this referred to as CGI meaning computer generated imagery.

Computer animation is just another method of creating animation by way of automation or computer technology. The principals are the same as when they are done by hand, it is just the computer is able to do much of the preparation work and rendering of the finished version. It duplicates the stop motion techniques of 3D and framing by 2D.

Using the computer for animation is a systematic process. To begin with, the object is built on the computer monitor. These are the models. Then the 3D figures have to have a virtual skeleton. To get the major movements such as for the eyes, mouth or clothing for example then the computer will create an action called tweening or morphing.

When dealing with 3D animations it is important to remember that all of the same fundamentals and basics of animation are utilized. In this case, though modeling must be complete prior to rendering. The rendering in tweened frame is done as needed.

As you can see with 3D animation, the majority of the work is done through the computer. Although the computer does the work it has to receive the instructions to do so, and that is where the 3D animator's job comes in. This means besides the fundamentals keen computer skills and a thorough knowledge of the capabilities of the software are a necessity.

It is important for anyone interested in a career in 3D animation to research all of the different areas of expertise that are required. Without doing so it is most difficult to make an informed decision as to whether this would be an appropriate career for you.

How Musical Theater Saved Disney Animation As We Know It

Disney animated features have actually been a childhood staple for generations. Snow White was the very first, and continues to be just one of the most loved films of all time. These magical animated features hit a serious lull in the 1980s when live action films became more popular. It was a dark time where Disney's production of cartoon fairy tales appeared to be over forever. But, somehow, the animated feature fought back and came to be stronger than ever. There is no doubt that the Disney Company would not be where it is today without the influence of musical theater.

Tales such as The Little Mermaid, Aladdin and Beauty and The Beast are all remarkable visually, but it is their tales, so full of heart and genuine, that caught the hearts of viewers all over the world. Taking a massive risk with their company, Disney Animation packed as much emotion as possible into the short films using an approach performers have relied on since the dawn of time: the power of song. With a character singing his or her feelings, exposition, entertainment and changes can easily flow effortlessly from one scene to yet another, offering a broad review of a character's thoughts, sensations and plans in a short period of time. And of course, it is overwhelming romantic, comedic or unfortunate reliant on the situation.

Exactly how often do little girls and boys recite lines from their preferred characters? Certainly not as frequently as they sing their hearts out to their favored musical numbers. It is not just about catchy sound tracks that appeal to a young audience. Disney musicals are filled to the brim with complex feelings, character development and sensational vocal performances.

Alan Menken, composer extraordinaire for the most loved movies in history, discussed his work on The Little Mermaid saying: "Disney's animated films early on had a connection to operetta... making animated musicals enabled us to connect back into the Disney tradition." Not surprisingly, The Little Mermaid, which inspires youngsters and adults alike, went on to win 2 Oscars for best score and best song of 1989.

Nonetheless, the true effect of musical theater's influence on Disney, wasn't seen till "Beauty and the Beast's" was the first animated feature to be selected for best picture in 1991. Notice just how both films, along with The Lion King have gone on to relive their magnificence as Broadway Musicals, with a terrific amount of success. An increasing number of animated features are being seen as viable choices for staging, because they were generally animated versions of well considered musicals.

The Disney Theme Parks, specially Walt Disney World additionally have live presentations of the movies that cycle through, such as the long running Beauty and The Beast and more recently, Finding Nemo.

Whiteboard Animation Videos - Imagine, Engage and Memorise

Most of us learn (take on information) more easily when that information is presented to us visually. This has been proven in the classroom over and over again: And in fact, whiteboard videos have been used to teach children, adults and employees for many years (although the current style has changed somewhat). UPS whiteboard commercials were the first to hit television screens: A major brand that could afford the expense of what was a comparatively long-winded process back then. Always a versatile media, with today's advanced technology, whiteboard animation is far more economical than it was in yester-years. Today even small businesses can afford to get animated.

So Simple...

If a picture is worth a thousand words, a sound whiteboard animation video is worth just as much. Whiteboard videos can be used to visually explain a broad spectrum of concepts (company policy, products, software and technical demonstrations for example) in an entertaining and so engaging way. They are also referred to as "video scribing", "fast hand drawing" and "sketch cartoon" videos. While a little dated now the UPS videos remain excellent examples of what can be achieved with whiteboard animation. Indeed, the UPS man standing in front of a big whiteboard scribbling away with his marker is still legendary. The sketches were so simple too: A UPS truck becomes a UPS Plane and a UPS box becomes a computer tracking those shipments etc. So straightforward - which is exactly how this relaxed and uncomplicated video successfully managed to get across this company's services in seconds - and it could do the exact same for your company's services and products.

Just Another Option?

Without doubt, there are many different ways to get a company's message across. However, despite the flexibility and success of whiteboard animation the power of it has yet to be "discovered" by many small businesses - Maybe the huge success of UPS has them believing this is for "big business" only. The fact is, that simply is not true. The word "viral traffic" is all the rage right now and it is (essentially) free traffic. A whiteboard animation can improve overall brand recognition as well as get "the" message across: As UPS has proven, make it good and you make it memorable: Make it memorable and people will (and do) pass it on - Surely that has to be a sound marketing move.

Whiteboard animation can turn the task of complex ideas and text into an enlivened experience. The general public are bombarded with media day in and day out (hence, they have become a tad "thick skinned" in the twenty-first century. The whiteboard represents a fairly new approach within the world of digital marketing. Therefore a little more interesting -and people love interesting!

You should consider using a professional whiteboard animation company to hold the attention of prospective buyers.

Girls In Japanese Animation

From 1990, girls have been featured as both protagonists and antagonists in most Japanese animation shows. Yet they have proven themselves to be smarter with their charm and being perceived as weaker species. Those serve as their weapons which helped to overcome obstacles and get them what they want.

That was very different from the mangas in the 1950s to 1980s when they played one-dimensional supporting roles such as damsels in distress and doing everything they are told by men. Now they are more independent and capable than anyone may think. Instead of men saving women, it is now the other way round when they saw their men being abused and beaten up by their own kind.

Examples of such animation shows are Apple Seed Ex Machina by John Woo and Shinji Aramaki as well as Silent Mobius by Kia Asamiya.

Silent Mobius is especially memorable to me when the main character Katsumi Liqeur plays both protagonist and antagonist when she fell to the dark side after her boyfriend Roy's death on the eve of their marriage.

Other than Katsumi, Kia also focuses on developing other supporting characters in an all-women police force. Leader Rally Cheyenne, her second-in-command Mana Isozaki, tomboy Kiddy Penne, girl with psychic powers Yuki Saiko, socceress warrior Lum Cheng and IT analyst Lebia Maverick.

In spite of their unique abilities, they are very much human. They made mistakes and have mood swings occasionally. Yet the way they managed their problems is much better than men most of the time.

What amazes me is that Kia has a great understanding of women despite being man himself. This is apparent in the way his Silent Mobius characters argued, communicate and ultimately work together against a common adversary to achieve peace for the society.

Besides Silent Mobius, Dark Angel, Compiler and Accelerator are his other trademarks of having women as main characters.

I also like Apple Seed Machina. In the story, main character Deunan pulls herself together from a trauma of losing her boyfriend Briareos from humanity to accepting him as reborn cyborg. Yet when Briareos is wounded again, she faces the same dilemma when her new partner looks exactly like her boyfriend's former human self.

On the whole, the contrasting personalities and traits of different girls are created with the authors' objective to make the story more realistic and engaging to the audience as compared to conventional guy saves girl action shows.

Best Animation Software for Mac

A year ago I was looking for the best animation software for Mac to use at home. I had never animated before and I had no idea what I was looking for. I didn't have a lot of money at the time. I didn't want to spend a lot of money either. I can start things sometimes and get bored easily.

So, I wanted to test the water first with something good but inexpensive. If I got into animation in a big way, I decided, I could purchase a more expensive product later.

As it happens, I did get into animation in a big way and I have now upgraded to a more expensive product!

I've put lots of reviews of what I consider to be the best animation software for Mac and also for PC on my web pages. The link is at the bottom of this article.

The product I started off with though was inexpensive and actually excellent for me back then as a beginner. It actually works well for beginners to semi-pro animators. I now use Poser but back then for $47 Illusion Mage was incredible and I would recommend it to anyone who wants to start off with best animation software for Mac and PC.

I purchased it for $47, reduced from nearly $100 (it's still at that reduced price now) and it was a brilliant decision on my part. It was easy to understand and basically taught me how to animate.

Illusion Mage is designed for both beginners and more advanced users. As a beginner myself at that time, I was impressed at how user friendly the package was. Unlike the free 3D animation software I'd downloaded before, with Illusion Mage I began to create digital animation immediately. This was a lot to do with the excellent video tutorials and support pages. You just don't get that with free and unstable software.

The video tutorials explain everything you need to know about the 3D animation program and step-by-step instructions on what to do for beginners. Combined with the manuals it all made the learning process far easier. I was creating my first project within hours of downloading everything.

If you are anything like me then you'll be a bit impatient and will want to get started immediately. But I thoroughly advise that you spend a couple of hours watching the videos and reading the manuals as it will save you loads of time later on. Like anything in life, a bit of patience is needed in the early stages but you won't regret this purchase when you start seeing the results.

At that particular time, Illusion Mage was definitely the best animation software for Mac at that price. I still think it is to be honest. I mean, you cannot go wrong for what it offers at under $50.

I have since upgraded to a more expensive animated software. Poser 9 (which currently has 80% off). You can read reviews of all the Poser series and lots more on my website.

The link to my reviews website is below. I hope you enjoy reading my reviews and buy the best animation software for Mac.

Best Animation Software

As a child I tried my hand at animation with a Super 8mm film camera. I made a few plasticine models, got a few tripod-mounted lights from dad's university and set up shop in his garage. Wow. What a painstaking process! 3 weeks later I had 1 minute of shakyjuddery stop-motion animation. But I was hooked.

For me as a kid the kings of animation were British TV animator Oliver Postgate (who created some wonderful stop motion like Bagpuss and Ivor the engine) and Ray Harryhausen who spent his career making stop motion dinosaurs and monsters in classics like Sinbad and the eye of the tiger. Today of course, I watch films like Avatar and Pixar movies and want to create visuals just like that. I wish!

Since my first attempts to animate all those years back, I've tried my hand at animation with more modern techniques - i.e. a computer and 3d animation software. My initial experiences were not that much different from my first attempts with a super 8mm film camera. Basically not very good!

The problem I had initially, was that I purchased a pretty expensive bit of software that was really a league above my understanding. It wasn't the best animation software in the world but it also wasn't the worst. The trouble was it didn't have the tutorials that an amateur like me really needed in the first stages of what is actually a steep learning curve. I persevered but made little progress then got a bit bored. Bad start. But I didn't give up.

I really didn't have any success until last year when I finally purchased the best 3D animation software that I've owned since taking up this great hobby. The product I ended up with was not only excellent in terms of price but also gave me the basic tools for making animations of relatively high quality. What it proved to me was that sometimes it's best to start cheap and simply and learn the tricks and techniques before diving straight in with something too high-tech. Now I've learnt a lot I am considering moving onto another 3d animation software product and taking things to the next level. The best thing I ever did though was start with a cheap but cheerful product first.

I have noticed recently that many of the best 3D animation software products on the market have come down considerably in price. Now, don't be fooled, you aren't going to be making Avatar-quality films with this stuff. However, you will be blown away by how good some of your animations will be once you get the hang of what you are doing.

So, be advised, if you are beginner then start cheaply and with something that provides good tutorials and training support. Some of the best animation software out there isn't the most expensive. Good luck!
