How Artists Can Let Go of Survival Jobs

If you're a creative artist at heart, it may be difficult to earn a good living from your art. Whether you're an illustrator, painter, sculptor, singer or writer, undoubtedly you already have a survival job and it's a dull and poor-paying, 9-5 experience. And that's the problem, the job is for survival, and that's about all you can expect.

I know, because that's what I experienced day after day, year after year as a struggling writer. I deliberately sought out jobs that required very little commitment from me so I could devote my energy to my writing. In return I received very little pay. After a while I got tired of asking my family and friends for money to make up for my own lack.

I was in debt up to my eyeballs and using my credit cards to cover basic living expenses. I had several artist-friends and the constant topic of our conversation was getting our big break. The thought of it was exciting; it's what we all wanted and we worked hard for it daily.

But around the time I neared 30, I noticed that our conversations had begun to change. No longer was the big break the most important thing-everyone, myself included, had more pressing issues. Like establishing a home and a family. And debt and survival jobs didn't figure into that equation.

To make matters worse I was carrying a boat load of student loan debt so the thought of going back to school for several years and getting another degree wasn't an option. I felt trapped in my day job, which didn't give me benefits or health insurance either.

I realized that I needed a better job. A high-paying job. A job with a future. And the ugly truth is that the urge to trade in my creativity for a steady job became stronger and stronger every month. Finally, I got to the point where I was ready to give up my art; and based on my past conversations with artist-friends I knew this scenario happened all the time.

After much internal struggle, I decided against giving up my creativity. I thought it was better to have a solid career, which would give me the emotional and financial stability I needed to write before work in the morning or after work in the evenings and during weekends.

Once I made that decision, I discovered there were lots of options available too. Yes, going back to school for another degree or an advanced degree is a popular choice. The number of Law Schools, MBA programs and MFA programs has increased substantially over the past decade. However, that wasn't the choice I made.

There are short-term options available, such as getting training in a specific field, like technology.

Suddenly I woke up to the fact that technology has been a hot field for at least two decades. More and more new fields are popping up every single day and they're a good choice for artists. So I got myself into a short-term training program and a few weeks after that I had my first job offer. I didn't need a degree in Computer Science either to break into the tech-field nor did I need to be all that tech-savvy.

What I needed was the willingness to dedicate myself to studying an hour a day even while I worked my survival job. And the best part is that I didn't have to sacrifice my writing to do it.

Why? Because learning about technology didn't suck up time from practicing my craft. Contrary to popular belief you do not, let me repeat, you do not have to give up your art to land a good career. The only thing you will give up is the survival job and the financial problems it produced.

3 Fundamental Tattooing Techniques

There are 3 fundamental tattooing techniques that must be mastered by every tattoo artist.

A tattoo artist who performs these tattooing techniques with a high degree of skill makes a permanent tattoo something that the tattoo owner can be proud of. Each technique requires a thorough understanding of the tools and supplies used by a tattoo artist.

Let's get started...

Tattooing Technique #1 - Creating a Tattoo Stencil
Tattoo stencils are used to apply the basic lines of the tattoo design to the skin before using a tattoo gun to apply the tattoo. Even the most experienced tattooists begin with a stencil rather than attempting to apply a freehand design. Since the skin is stretched by the tattooist while the tattoo is applied, working without a stencil could result in a distorted finished tattoo.

Many tattoo artists use carbon paper to copy a tattoo design onto another piece of paper. The carbon paper is placed under the piece of paper with the tattoo design, inky side down. A piece of clean paper is then placed under the carbon paper.

All 3 layers should be secured with staples or paper clips before tracing the design with ballpoint pen.

One of the most important tattooing techniques related to creating a stencil with carbon paper is to remember that the image of the design that is laid against the skin will be reversed.

Once the design is traced over, it will appear correctly on the skin when the stencil is removed. Instead of using carbon paper, some tattoo artists use an artist's light table to create a stencil. A stencil created with a light table will face in the right direction. The original drawing is laid face down on the light table and the design shows through and can be traced directly onto another piece of paper.

Tattooing Technique #2 - Applying the Tattoo Stencil
Once a stencil has been created, it can be applied to the skin of the client.

Before the stencil is applied, the skin must be shaved smooth and cleaned with antiseptic. A disposable razor should be used and then discarded, since it could transfer germs or minute amounts of blood to other clients. One of the most common tattooing techniques for applying a stencil is to use roll-on deodorant to transfer the design. The deodorant is applied to the skin, then the stencil is positioned on the deodorant and pressure is applied all over the design. When the paper stencil is peeled away, the tattoo design will have transferred onto the skin.

If the position of the tattoo is not correct, the stencil can be removed from the skin with alcohol and applied again.

Like the razor, the roll-on deodorant should only come into contact with the skin of a single client. Some tattoo artists buy small travel-size deodorant and dispose of it after one use. Another option is to use a clean tongue depressor to transfer deodorant from the roll-on applicator to the skin, and then dispose of the tongue depressor.

Tattooing Technique #3 - Outlining the Tattoo
Once the tattoo design has been stenciled onto the skin and both client and tattooist agree on the placement, it's time to begin the tattoo outline. Being able to create a tattoo outline is one of the most basic tattooing techniques. The majority of tattoo designs begin with an outline.

Starting from the bottom of the design is the best approach, to avoid either smearing the freshly applied ink or wiping off parts of the stencil.

In order to vary the effect of the outline, different size needles can be used to produce lines with different thicknesses. While an expert tattoo artist has an intuitive feeling for which lines should be thick and which thin, a beginner tattooist may want to experiment with line thicknesses on a paper copy of the tattoo design before picking up the tattoo gun.

When applying ink to a tattoo outline, the client's skin should be stretched taut by the tattoo artist so that the needles will move smoothly across the skin. When the tattoo needles are dipped into ink, enough ink should be loaded to allow a continuous line to be drawn. While the outline is being applied, excess ink and blood are frequently wiped away by the tattooist. After taking a break from outlining to reapply ink to the needles, lighter pressure should be used when continuing the line to avoid dropping a blob of ink or creating visible joins.

The three tattooing techniques described here are fundamental to the art of tattooing.

They should be practiced again and again by a novice tattooist until they become second nature. Once the fundamental techniques have been mastered, a tattooist can focus on developing a unique personal style and becoming a true tattoo artist.

Breast Cancer Ribbon Tattoos

Breast cancer ribbon tattoos have become a very popular way to show your support for those who have fought a cancer battle. While there are many different types of ribbons supporting many different causes, the pink ribbon is one that has taken on international significance representing breast cancer awareness.

With one in eight women and men fighting the breast cancer battle this year alone there is a good chance that you will know someone who has been diagnosed with breast cancer. As a tattoo enthusiast, I love seeing people who have chosen to honor and support someone with a breast cancer ribbon tattoo.

If you are thinking about getting a breast cancer tattoo for yourself that honors someone who is fighting this particular battle or someone whose has fought this battle and ultimately lost ~ then here are some tattoo tips that you will want to keep in mind.

* Choosing the Right Breast Cancer Ribbon Tattoo Design.

Take your time choosing the perfect breast cancer tattoo. Not only do you want the tattoo to be the right one for you, but you'll want it to properly symbolize your love and support for your friend or loved one. Looking through online designs is a good place to start. Having a stencil in hand of your chosen artwork when you go to your favorite tattoo artist can also save you some time and money.

* Location, Location, Location

Just as in real estate, the location of your tattoo is important, especially with this type of tattoo. Display it in a prominent location. After all... you want the world to see this beautiful work of art that shows your love and support for those with breast cancer.

* If This is Your First Tattoo?

If this is your first tattoo then you must Think... Think... and Re-Think Before You Ink! Take your time choosing a design. Take your time choosing the right placement location.

Don't get a tattoo while under pressure from someone else. Hopefully, you will be living with this tattoo for the rest of your life so choose wisely from the start. You will want to be happy not only today but for all the tomorrows to come.

* Consultation Please!

It is a very good idea to make an appointment for a consultation with the artist. Actually, you should consult with several artists before making a final decision on just which artist will ink your tattoo. Take all your ideas, sketches and stenciled artwork with you to your appointment so together you and the artist can come up with the best custom tattoo design that is just right for you.

Getting a tattoo is somewhat of an intimate experience so you will want to be comfortable with the person who is going to be making art with you.

* Don't Shop for Price Alone!

Tattooing is an art form and great tattoos can be expensive. If you decide to go smaller in order to save money, you may regret it later. Sometimes waiting until you can afford to get the right tattoo will be worth it in the long run. Your tattoo should be unique and special to you so don't scrimp on it.

Deciding to get a breast cancer ribbon tattoo is commendable and offers a special tribute to your loved one or friend. Take your time choosing the best design and the right application location. Only then will it truly show honor and respect for those who fight the breast cancer battle.

Have you been wondering what is going to be hot in the world of tattoo designs this year? Every year it seems like the trends and what is popular in the world of tattoos changes. This year it is no different and the sexiest and best tattoos for girls are quickly becoming clear. Yes even though it is early in 2010 you can already see the major trends of what is going to be hot this year and even into next year. This article will look at the top locations and the hottest tattoo design trends.

Locations For Hot Female Tattoo Designs

Of course you can always get a tattoo on any part of the body you want. The list below just gives some of the most popular places to get inked on the female body. If you already have somewhere in mind then great but if you are still trying to think of the location for your tattoo design then by all means read what is below and take the ideas into consideration and see what works best for you and the tattoo you want.

Hip Tattoos - This is one of the newest and most sexy areas for female tattoo designs. It used to be the lower back tattoo was the sexy location but this has changed and now one of the new even hotter places to get a design in on the hip. They are easy to hide when needed in a professional setting but a great pair of hip hugger jeans will also reveal at least the top if not all of these great tattoos.

Upper Back - The upper back tattoo is the new answer to the lower back tramp stamp. Yes the lower back has been overdone and over played at this point but have no fear the upper back tattoo is just as sexy if not more so and works well for larger designs. This gives you almost unlimited possibilities for hot tattoo designs.

Half Sleeve - Sleeve tattoos be them full sleeve, half sleeve or even quarter sleeves were once the domain of men's tattoos. However, no more women are going bolder with their tattoos and designs as well as the locations on their bodies. More and more women are getting sleeve tattoos these days and they are sexy.

Side Tattoos For Girls - Side tattoos are also another very hot trend in tattoo designs for women. These typically start down low around the waist area and then come up on the side. These can go up into the rib cage area. Just keep in mind the higher on the ribs you go the more painful the tattoo will be but often these are such great designs that it will be worth the pain.

Hot Designs And Styles For Girls

Floral - Of course these are pretty self explanatory but flower tattoos are the perfect match to fit beautifully with the female body. The curves of the vines and the color of the flower blossom works perfectly together to create beautiful feminine design. Keep in mind the symbolism behind different flowers can play an important role in the design of these tattoos.

Japanese Koi - Japanese koi fish tattoos are quickly becoming a very hot item for women to get. They represent power and strength. The beauty of the color with the blue water and the gold and yellow scales on the fish make for a very brilliant colorful tattoo design that works great on the female body be it a side tattoo or a half sleeve design.

Cherry Blossom - Also a traditional Japanese tattoo design these are quickly becoming very popular. The cherry blossom is delicate, beautiful and lives a short brilliant and bright life and then fall tragically on the snow to die. The symbolism here is to live life to the fullest to be bold and beautiful and live each day to it's fullest. This is a great reminder for all of us and how everyone should live their lives.

Angels - Angels and fairies have always been popular with women as well as butterflies. There is just something magical and special about wings and the colors and meaning behind such designs work well for women. The flowing lines of wings and the feminine shapes of the fairies or angels create a beautiful looking design.

These are some of the most popular locations and design ideas in tattoos for girls right now. Of course maybe none of them will work for you if you already have a design in mind. However, they are provided here to keep you up to date with what is currently popular and hot. That does not mean run out and get one of these tattoo designs just because you think they are popular. However, they can provide ideas and guide you to find your own unique tattoo design. Could the Tattoo That's Cool Today, Make You Sick Tomorrow?

Tattoos have been around for thousands of years. They were used for identification and to inspire fear in ones enemies. There has been much speculation about where they originated. Regardless of the answer it is clear that tattooing has become an obsession. It is reported that 1 in 7 Americans has a tattoo. That is an astounding number and it is on the rise.

People have many reasons for getting a tattoo. Perhaps it is to memorialize a loved one or to express emotions for a current love. Some get tattoos as a way make a personal statement about themselves. No matter they are everywhere.

Perhaps you have tattoo or are considering getting one. What I find interesting is that people seem to give little thought to the potential risks of tattoos. Risks? Well of course. The modern method of applying tattoos was based on a machine called the autographic printer, or an engraving machine.. The inventor was none other than Thomas Edison in 1876. I remember people having crude adaptations of these devices when I was kid. The machine was later adapted to apply inks under the skin. The ink reservoirs came later.

Most people are probably not aware that the large majority of tattoo inks are based on metals. For instance red and black come from iron oxides. Yellow comes from cadmium. Green comes from chromium and so on.

I do not know if I am ready to make a pronouncement that tattoos are unsafe but it is a well known fact that the Food and Drug Administration(FDA) has begun to take close look at tattoo inks given the rising popularity of this obsessive ritual.

The mere fact that the many of the inks are based on metals is a cause for alarm since high metal content in the human body has been linked to many diseases. Additionally, there are other inks that are based on plastics that are reported to change the texture of the skin in a way that cannot be reversed even if the tattoo is removed. The most disconcerting tidbit I stumbled upon was the knowledge that many tattoo artist mix their own inks. There is no oversight no way to know if someone is qualified to do such a thing.

The skin is the largest organ on the human body. Many people seem to forget that. Essentially whatever is applied to the skin is absorbed through the body. This is true of soaps, lotions, perfumes, colognes, and of course tattoo inks. We know this is the case because tattoos will fade a bit over time, but not because the ink is washing off, it is being absorbed by the body internally. So the question is, if a person were to ingest the same ink that makes up their tattoo, what would happen? My guess is that they would become very ill, very quickly. So perhaps the effect is the same just a bit slower as the skin drinks in the inks.

I guess the more I think about it the more I am alarmed at the number of people who get tattoos and more importantly the people who have them covering nearly their entire body.

Finally there are two other considerations. The person who gets a really bad tattoo and the person who gets a tattoo and decides they no longer want it. Then what?

The business of removing tattoos seems to be growing in stride with the business of getting tattoo as people increasing are feeling remorse over their decision to permanently get inked.

But tattoo removal is no walk in the park. The methods most commonly sought are dermabrasion, laser removal, and do-it-our-self creams.

Dermabrasion essentially is a process where the skin is filed down similar to sanding a piece of wood. This is expensive and can leave permanent scars. Not to mention, sanding down certain areas of the body has got to be painful.

Laser treatments can fade tattoos but several visits may be required and the costs can skyrocket very quickly. There is also the risk of hypopigmentation which is where the skin become lighter as a result of the laser exposure. Laser can also cause some tattoo inks to change in color rather than fade in a desirable way.

There are several creams on the market that claim to fade tattoos. Some work better than others. The challenge for any of these methods is keeping up with the rapidly changing inks used in tattoo parlors.

Wrecking Balm makes that claim and also uses a device that is FDA approved for application.

For many the cost of tattoo removal is many times more expensive than the original tattoo application. While I personally do not have any tattoos I know many who do and a few who wish they didn't. Given the cost I would say try the creams first. It is cheaper and if it works you can avoid some pain and potential scarring. If all else fails and you just want the tattoo gone then I guess laser tattoo removal or dermabrasion are the next options.

Considering Different Tattoo Designs

Tattoos have been around for thousands of years. Body art is a beautiful way to express one's artistic sensitivities. However, when choosing a tattoo, it is important that you make a very careful decision. While it is possible to remove a tattoo, it is a complicated process. For this reason, most pieces will remain on your body forever.

You want to choose a tattoo design that speaks to your unique nature. In order to make the most educated choice, it is important to understand all of the different traditions that persist in this art form. If you are aware of a variety of style options, you will be able to select a tattoo that best represents your personality. At the same time, an intelligent tattoo choice will impress other fans of the craft. Let's take a look at some of the more popular tattoo styles.

Tribal Tattoos

The tribal tattoo is a design style that has a deep history. While this can refer to a variety of styles, the modern tribal tattoo has the most in common with the styles used by Pacific tribes. Huge, sweeping monochromatic line work with dramatic curves defines the latest expression of the genre. The line work is typically filled in with solid black ink. However, there are artists who experiment with the use of color and alternative designs inside of a tribal framework. For example, an artist might include a modern full-color image inside of an all-black tribal border. This is considered a very mainstream and modern tattoo style. Since these tribal designs can conform to nearly any shape, they make an excellent choice for any region of the body.

Celtic Tattoos

Celtic designs can also be considered tribal designs. While they are historically tribal, you would not want to ask a tattoo artist to give you one of these designs by referring to it in that way. These tattoos come from design traditions that are indigenous to the Irish, Welsh, and Scotch regions. Symmetrical spirals, closed knots, and complex mazes are recurring themes in these designs. Their organized and detailed look inspire many to choose this popular style. Celtic tattoos are also great for bands that wrap around a body part. For example, a band around the forearm looks great with a Celtic knot design.

Mayan Tattoos

The Mayans have a unique and ancient body art tradition. Their artistic style is very popular among the traditional options that are available. Mayan art contains mysterious divine figures and line work of minute detail. There is usually an element of rich shading involved in this style. For someone who loves monochromatic shading, this is one of the more attractive and detailed options. The Mayan style is great for filling space on a sleeve. It conforms quite well to the shape considerations of a background between different pieces.

Old School Tattoos

Old school western tattoos are also very popular. This is a colorful design style that incorporates simple images. This classic art tradition originated on ships and in prisons. In western culture, bored sailors and inmates would create simple tattoos to pass the time. Stars, ships, beautiful women, and other icons are prominently displayed in this style. Banners with hearts, dice, knives, and other traditional shapes are standard in this retro genre. A well done old school tattoo will turn heads among connoisseurs of body art.

Irezumi Tattoos

Irezumi is a classic Japanese tattoo style. This is a very detailed type of body art. These images depict the types of scenes that would be traditionally found on ancient Japanese wood carvings. Foliage and animals are weaved into intricate designs that fill space very nicely. The Irezumi style is often used for full body illustrations. You can expect to see dragons and deep reds in this type of artwork.

New School Tattoos

The new school western tradition is a more detailed version of the iconic style used in the old school. While the common themes like skulls, crosses, and stars are often included, the artwork has a more realistic presentation. Incredible detail, shading, and use of color brings these images to life. They often incorporate fantasy and pop culture themes into a rich landscape. These designs can be used to create sleeves or cover the entire torso.

Gothic Tattoos

The goth subculture emerged in the west in the late 20th century. A tattoo style developed that catered to the images that this community prefers. Victorian art is merged with medieval imagery to create a highly detailed style. Pagan imagery is often the subject of these works. This style conforms well to any region of the body.

In closing, there are a variety of styles that can satisfy anyone's tastes. Each artist has a unique interpretation of all of the traditional options. You can also choose images that are not typical for any of the more common genres. Your tattoo is a personal choice. You want to choose subjects that represent specific things that relate to your life. When someone asks why you chose your tattoo, you want to have a very rich and personal explanation. Body art is about expressing your individuality. We aren't able to control our genetic makeup, but we can definitely pay an awesome artist to enrich our skin with beautiful artwork.

These styles are just a few of the mainstream choices that are available. There are countless disciplines that can produce unique tattoos. Lesser known styles can make an interesting choice as well. Hybrids can be created that borrow a few characteristics from different genres. You can choose monochromatic, shaded, or full-color tattoos. You can incorporate different styles into a full sleeve. There are limitless options.

Carefully consider the style, placement, and color options when choosing your tattoo. The piece should look good upon close examination, but it should also fit the look of your entire body. You should consider all of these things when selecting the right body art. A good design will remind you of its unique meaning for the rest of your life.

The Artistic Approach to Riddles

What has teeth but cannot eat? What turns but never moves? What has eyes but cannot see? What lock is there no key can open? We hear riddles like these all of the time and most of us are familiar with them. Even though they aren't new to us we are still very fascinated by them and we see them in popular culture all the time. This is because when it comes to riddles, there's more than meets the eye. Behind the few lines of text that they are composed of riddles are complex linguistic structures that can reveal a lot about language and art in the culture in which they exist.

Riddles can be read and answered but they are more effective and artistic when performed or said out loud. Riddles work within the cultural and linguistic rules that they exist in, making it an art of assumptions. These assumptions begin with performance. Since the person asking the riddle knows the answer they naturally put emphasis on all of the words in the riddle that are relevant culturally to the answer. This is a part of the encoding that goes into the riddle. The contents of the riddle itself is also very important to the cultural and artistic aspects of the riddle. The solution to the riddle is generally something that most people of the time and culture can relate to. This is made apparent by the survival of 'Why did the chicken cross the road?" and the death of many riddles relating to things such as iron ore that no longer are relevant to most people's lives. The same rule applies to the riddle itself; all of the clues must hold cultural relevance to ensure that most people will understand the references, otherwise it won't be popular. Riddles can demonstrates a lot about language when their word choice and sentence structure is observed.

Here is an example riddle: "I live off of a busy street, if you want you can stay for an hour or two, but if you don't pay rent I'll tell on you". The answer to this riddle is a parking meter. The performance of this riddle would reveal a lot about the cultural relevance of the riddle. Usually when this riddle is told the words that are most heavily emphasized are off, two, rent and you. In our culture when somebody says they live off of a street they usually mean they live on a street that connects to the original street. But in this case it literally means off of it. By putting emphasize on off it implies that there is some veiled meaning to the word that is out of the ordinary, and there is. Rent is another word with veiled meaning that is emphasized. Similarly, the answer to the riddle has cultural relevance. The riddle is very specific to our era since almost everyone has used a parking meter and they are a relatively new invention.

These conditions make riddles an art, an art that has been partaken in by Albert Einstein, William Shakespeare, and J.R.R. Tolkien. These great pieces or art should be treasured.

Avoid These 2 Dumb Tattoo Choices

Tattoos are great but some people really make some dumb tattoo choices. One of these I'm about to list may be obvious, but the other is not so obvious and anyone can fall into the trap. It's very important to learn what dumb tattoo choices really are so as you do not make these same mistakes.

2 Dumb tattoo choices that people make:

Face tattoos. There are exceptions, but generally getting face ink is stupid. The suicide rate for people with face ink is well above the average. You can forget about most kinds of employment and you can forget about walking around society without being constantly looked at. While many face tattoo wearers obviously want the attention, everyone at some point wants some solitude and could do without constant staring. Think twice and then think twice more if you are considering getting inked on the face.

Trend tattoos. Many people make this mistake, so it's very important to ensure you don't fall victim to it. It's one of the most common stupid tattoo decisions people make. Trend tattoos are any styles or designs of ink in which everyone and their brother has decided to get. If you start seeing a particular tattoo gain in popularity, then stay as far away as possible from it. You'll regret it big time in only a few years when it becomes super lame due to the fact that everyone jumped on the trendy bandwagon like fools. Slang terminology emerges from trendy tattoos. Like "tramp stamp". This was the heavily overplayed lower back girl tattoo that practically every girl decided to get this last decade.

For original, high quality tattoo choices that you WON'T regret, see this online tattoo book which get's updated constantly so you'll always find the latest and greatest designs - http://Tattoo-Book.info

Most people look at other people to try to find designs. Instead of being a copycat, you should do your own research and find a design which personally speaks to you. This book gallery is all the research you need to find top quality ink - http://Tattoo-Book.info

About Lower Back Tattoos

One of the most popular areas of tattooing these days is lower back tattooing. I have seen so many girls with tattoos on the small of their back that it truly shows off well. I have seen girls wear flowers, boyfriend names, and many other types of tattoos on their lower backs.

The reason that girls do it is because they want to show off. Now if you put this together with why girls wear short jeans, super short shorts, small shirts and what not. That is the only reason I can seem to come up with because I have asked girls before that wear tattoos on their lower backs and they said they wear short clothes to show off their tattoos. Nothing wrong with that obviously, it's the current popular trend that is going on.

The tattoos are located on the small of the back or on top of the buttocks. Having the types of tattoos that girls wear on their back, it is very easy to realize what type of tattoos girls are wearing, which when males look at the girls backs, they get turned on. That is how girls get the type of guys they want; they lure them by their feminine charm. Males get the 'sensual' type of feeling when they look at girl's backs and their tattoos, which helps females.

It truly is easy to understand why they are so popular these days. There are only a few places on a women's body that are sensual and attractive and women try to expose them as much as possible. Some of the most sensual and most attractive places on a women's body are the neck, lower back. One of the main reasons why lower back tattoos have gained such popularity is due to the fact that how easily you can hide them and how easy you can expose them. It truly makes it really easy on a women's body to hide and expose. Hide your tattoo by wearing something long or expose it by the cowgirl style. Although tattoos are nice and all, you should be very careful that if you work, most work places frown upon having a tattoo on any part of your body and if you do get hired and have a tattoo, do your best to hide the tattoo so you don't get fired!

Let me share a little bit of statistics with you. Nearly 25% of women in the United States between the ages of 18 and 50 have tattoo's and of those 25%, 20% of those women have lower back tattoos, that really tells you how serious some of these girls get. The hunger for intercourse is a big thing these days that lures guys into doing with girl's, tattoo plays a large role in this as well.

Let me share with you a few designs that are popular amongst the women on lower back tattooing:

- Lotus Flower
o The lotus flower on women's back is a great option for girls. The lotus flower has seedpods, flowers and buds, which if you may know, represent the past, present and the future.
o Tattoo combination is also a big thing for women these days. You can take heart tattoos, flower tattoos, thorns and many more types of tattoos and have them combined into something great on your lower back.

- Cross Designs
o Some of those girls that get tattoos and are religious, you can get a cross tattoo on your back to symbolize whatever you want.

- Dolphin Tattoos
o Another one of the main attractive tattoos that is popular these days. Some of the girls express their love for animals, nature and all of that jazz.

- Tribal Designs
o Are one of the most common lower back tattoo designs that you can really see on a women's lower back. I will have you know that some of the common used tribal designs are stars, moon, celtic style, sun and many more. It is good to understand that many tribal designs are an inspiration from Polynesia.

Regular women aren't the only ones with tattoos on their backs, there are Celebrity's that have tattoos on their body as well, specifically lower backs as well such as:

- Pamela Anderson having a tribal tattoo on her lower back.
- Julia Roberts having a tattoo of a butterfly on the bottom of her back.
- Angelina Jolie having a tattoo of a tiger on her back.
- Supermodel Anna Kournikova having a large star tattoo on her lower back.
- Nicky Hilton having a tattoo of the word "Hilton" on her back.
- There are many more tattoos on other celebrities as well, but these above ladies were the ones that were on the top of my head.

I'm going to remind you one more time that think before you come to final decision. Your tattoo is going to be on your forever, so you best make sure you get a tattoo that you really like and are going to keep it for a good while. Although there are tattoo removal shops out there, what's the point of getting a tattoo, going through the pain as well as spending all of that money only to go to a removal shop and to get it removed. Know what I mean?

Another thing I would like to warn you about is that you should wear loose clothes after you get a new tattoo on your lower back. Why? Reason being is that you don't want it to run against your new tattoo and cause un-necessary damage to it. If you do wear loose clothes, you will only be making the design artists job a tab bit easier and in return, you will get a better design to show off. Just let the tattoo heal for a few hours-to-days and you should be just fine.

Well, I hope you learned something new about lower back tattooing. I hope you will take the advise that I provided you with and learn from it. Good luck!

A Brief History of Cuban Art

Throughout history, Cuban art has been influenced by the rich history of the island itself and can be divided into several distinctive periods.

There is not much evidence of Pre-colonial Cuban art. A handful of cave paintings that have survived to this day do not give us a lot of insight when it comes to the artistic expressions of Taino Indians, the first inhabitants of Cuba.

In the earlier period of colonial rule, especially in the 15th and 16th century, there was almost no art created on the island, instead, paintings and other decorative objects adorning churches and palaces of the wealthy Spaniards were brought from Spain and other European countries. The first Cuban artists adopted Spanish style and it was not until the 1800s that a distinctive Cuban style started to emerge. The leaders of this new movement were José Nicolás de la Escalera and Vincente Escobar who were both self-taught.

Neo-classical style from the Italian and French schools was introduced by the French artist Jean Baptiste Vermay, who, in 1818 opened the first art school in Cuba-Escuela de Pintura y Escultura de San Alejandro. The most acclaimed painter in the second half of the 19th century was Esteban Chartrand, who created beautiful landscapes for wealthy landowners.

At the beginning of the 20th century, Cuban painters were influenced by the European avant-garde and many traveled to Europe to immerse themselves in the vibrant European art scene. Some of the most talented artists from this period, who adopted postimpressionist styles, created art using recognizable Cuban themes-local farmers, mulato girls and lush tropical landscapes. One of the most talented painters from this period was Victor Manuel García who was greatly influenced by Gauguin. His contemporary, Wilfredo Lam, Cuba's most famous painter, was primarily influenced by Picasso's surrealism, but at the same time, embraced his Afro-Cuban heritage in the timeless and magical art he created.

In the 1970s, a new generation of artists started to emerge. New times brought new mediums: serigraphy, sketches and graphic art. Some artists embraced pop art, some painted in deliberate primitivism style and others created photorealistic landscapes. The group of the most notable artists from this period includes Roberto Fabelo, Pedro Pablo Oliva, Zaida del Río, Nelson Domínguez and Eduardo Roca.

In the 80s, Cuban art started opening up to the world and many artists were exhibited in North America and Europe. The first Havana Art Biennial was held in 1984 and to this day remains one the most important showcases of Latin American art.

The contemporary Cuban art scene is more vibrant and alive than ever with many talented artists yet to be discovered by a worldwide audience.

The Coolest Forearm Tattoo Designs For Men

The forearm in the past was typically not the first place a person would get a tattoo design. However, one of the hottest and rapidly growing trends right now are literary or word tattoo designs and these work so well as great looking forearm tattoo designs that they have really become big recently.

Ambigrams

Ambigram tattoo designs are a pretty recent phenomena within the world of tattoos. Within the last few years this trend has seen amazing growth. These tattoos are very stunning and cool looking. Essentially an ambigram tattoo is a design that takes two words like evil and good and combines them into one word in such as way that when it is read from one orientation it reads as good. Then when the forearm is flipped over the tattoo now reads evil. These can make for some stunning forearm tattoos and since the shape of word tattoos is often long and rectangular the forearm is the natural place to get one of the cool designs. There are also so many great combinations of words such as good and evil, angel and devil, love and hate that it is hard to resist the cool factor of a great amibgram tattoo on the forearm.

Words And Sayings

Since words and sayings are so hot right not the shape of such font based tattoos is long and rectangular it honestly makes for one of the best options for a forearm tattoo design for men. The saying can e something you value or find important. It could be a favorite poem, some song lyrics that speak to you or some important phrase or series of words you want to remember. They can also work really well as sort of a memorial tattoo. Some simple words like never forget can word well as a design option.

Font Considerations

If you are considering getting a forearm tattoo design and really thinking about the literary or word design then the font it the most important thing to consider. Since you have two things the words themselves and the font that carry the mood and feeling of the design getting the right font to match the saying you are getting tattooed is really important. For example a word tattoo that says Evil is not going to look all the cool with a thin line font that has too many swirly embellishments. Instead you would want something bold, black and strong. With a word tattoo design you do not have to worry about finding the right design of graphical elements but you have to very carefully consider the fonts used.

If you are thinking about getting an ambigram or forearm tattoo with words or saying on it carefully consider the two main factors. What is the word or saying you want to get tattooed and what style font do you want to use. If you can get these two things correct you will end up with a very cool forearm tattoo design for men.

Various Flower Tattoos and the Meaning Behind Them

The flower tattoo is and has been popular since the introduction of colored inking and evolved detailing. Much like Zodiac symbols, the flower tattoo has meaning beyond its beauty. The floral tattoo has no gender borders. Flowers as a group represent new birth or tender age by the character of their existence being brightly colored, delicate and short lived. Each realistically inked flower has a meaning although there are many artist created inked flowers.

Floral Inking Alone or as an Accent

Flowers or floral tattoos are a versatile component of design that can be a standalone tattoo or part of another design. This is often seen with a skull and roses; however a single rose or group of roses is also another popular tattoo theme. Another might be the broken heart with a single rose passing up through the crack with thorns.

Some Flowers used in Tattoos and their Meaning

The Rose: The rose as a flower is timeless with each color having its own representation. A rose in one of the common few thorn bearing stems and the thorn is representative of pain and hurt.

Red symbolizes love, romance, beauty and Christian representation of cleanliness, new beginning and blood.

Yellow means friendship, missing the person or awaiting the person.

White is representative of purity and innocence.

Pink implies grace, stature and gentility

Black implies death, ending, mourning or disapproval.

The Sunflower is a hearty flower with a short season of growth yet it grows to upward of 6 feet as though stretching to the sun. It is no surprise that the sunflowers symbolizes standing tall, strength or follow your heart or gut feeling when used as a tattoo design. The sunflower is also representative of loyalty or of search of power.

The Lotus flower tattoo means simplicity or being at a state of conscious understanding.

The Lily flower tattoo symbolizes virginity or purity, of the soul of purity and everlasting.

The Cherry Blossom or floral tattoo are originally from Asiatic counties and having meaning that life itself is transient, for this small capsule of time before the next.

The Hibiscus flower or Hawaiian flower symbolizes living in the moment and like the tattoos of the Hawaiian beauty would also mean good life, enjoying life, respecting life and more. The Hibiscus has many meanings as does the rose.

Here are just a few more:

The Cactus and flower mean longevity and endurance.

The Daisy: Innocence

The Tulip: Enchantment of fairy tales and dreams

Tiger Lilly: Prosperity

Buttercup: of highest quality, wealth

Narcissus: of self or self esteem (egotistical narcissist view of life)

Spread Your Wings With Beautiful Butterfly Tattoo Designs

Butterfly tattoo designs are popular among young girls, who use variations of the design to express individuality while identifying themselves as girls who want the edge of having a tattoo without sacrificing their femininity.

There are so many different designs available that you run zero risk of having the same tattoo as somebody else unless you copy a butterfly directly from a popular source, such as a book or a symbol with which people are familiar. Though a lot of girls get tattoos of butterflies, you can be sure yours is totally unique if you have a trusted artist draw one, or design it yourself.

There are a lot of options as far as the design goes when getting a butterfly tattoo. The shape, color, and pattern on the wings are only limited by what you can dream up. You can get a very realistic butterfly from a skilled artist, and cartoon butterflies are just as cute.

A good way to dream up some ideas for your tattoo is to use a search engine to look for pictures of existing tattoos of butterflies. You'll find that there are a lot of pretty designs to choose from, and yours can emulate one you found particularly attractive, or you can use what you find as inspiration for you and your artist to create your own design.

It's important to take the decision to get a butterfly tattoo very seriously. The trend is concentrated heavily in the youth demographic and you won't be twenty years old forever. It's a good idea to make sure you are one hundred percent certain to get the tattoo, shop around for a good artist, and get the tattoo somewhere you are comfortable with.

Butterfly tattoos are a very feminine thing, so they are commonly put in places that are girly places for tattoos. Some examples are the lower back, the hipbone, or the chest. Also, the designs are frequently petite, due to the feminine nature of the butterfly.

Once you've made the decision, if you take the time to choose a stunning design, a great and experienced tattoo artist, and the perfect location for your new ink, there's no reason not to get a butterfly tattoo. Once you do, be sure to follow the tattoo artist's instructions and take great care of it so you can enjoy your adorable tattoo as soon as possible...and for as long as possible!

The only limit to what butterfly tattoo design you choose is your imagination, so remember to take time to pick one you love. You'll have the rest of your life to show off your ink, so remember to slow down and have fun with it.

Benefits of Hiring an Artists Management Company

A lot of people believe that artist managers are just out to fleece artists out of their hard earned money thus they will opt to not have one. This misconception of what an artist manager is has seen many go down the road of self-managing their careers, and with disastrous results. The truth is, as an artiste you cannot do it all alone. However talented you might be, you cannot manage all aspects of your career single handedly. You most definitely need an artists management company to deal with certain aspects of your career, whether you are a musician or a band or even an actor.

Here are some reasons why hiring an artist manager, is a good idea:

Your manager is tasked with the responsibility of offering career guidance for you. As an artiste, it is easy to get confused by everything happening around you. This is even worse if you are a new artiste. The feeling of being in uncharted waters can be overwhelming and that is when having a manager comes in handy. A manager is able to look at everything objectively and point out what you need to do. He/she has experience knowing what works and what doesn't.

As an artist, you already know the importance of having people cheering you on. This kind of cheerleading boosts your morale and gives you the motivation to go on. Celebrity management companies are cheerleaders in that they ensure the music business community knows about the capabilities of the artist they are representing. It is important for you to get deals, endorsements, contracts and so on. You can only get this if there's someone speaking about you constantly to the right people.

There is some sort of prestige that comes with having an artists management company working for you. The thinking here is that if you are good enough to have a manager, you are worth taking a second look at. Some record labels will even refuse to give contracts to artists who don't have managers as they are said to come with too much drama.

As an artist, you will come across many different kinds of people who will be hoping to do business with you. Some of these people will unfortunately be scammers and fraudsters. Having a manager protects you from such types and ensures you only engage in legitimate business deals. Most scammers will think twice about approaching someone who has a manager.

Celebrity management services are vital in ensuring proper time management and organization of an artist's schedule. The truth is that you don't have enough time to do everything that needs to be done. In between writing songs, recording, keeping in touch with your fans through social media, overseeing the branding of your merchandise, buying all the things you require for your career, you are going to feel overwhelmed. You need a manager to handle some of these tasks for you.

Artists management companies are also tasked with the responsibility of keeping concerned parties accountable. If you sign a deal and it doesn't go through, your manager follows that up. If someone pays you and the check bounces, your manager will know what to do.

Do not be the artiste that thinks you can do everything on your own. Hire us today and let us take some of that load off you.

Tips on How to Pick Meaningful Japanese Tattoo Symbols

Japanese symbols are attractive in the eyes of many. It is because these symbols are made up of unique strokes that only Japanese people can do. These days Japanese symbols were used as tattoos. However, choosing a meaningful Japanese symbol is quite difficult. Not all of us can speak or understand Japanese language. Who knows? Maybe the one you choose is a bad symbol.

Japanese tattoo symbols have different variations. Most symbols are associated in life such as strength, peace, power and victory. And in order to get a good Japanese symbol, you should be aware about the different alphabet used. Since then, there are three major alphabets including Kanji, katakana and hiragana. Some alphabets have the same meanings while others are quite different.

The symbol for strength is the easiest tattoo symbol to choose. In comparison with other symbols which involved complicated strokes, the symbol for strength has the simplest stroke. This is done by using two strokes or lines. The Japanese symbol for strength is Chikara and pronounced as Chi-Ka-Ra. There are many other symbols available for tattoos yet you should have a better understanding before you finally get it.

In most cases, Katakana and Hiragana are used in Japanese communications and only Kanji is used for tattoos. However, before you decide which design to chose, here are several steps that you can follow.

Make sure the Japanese tattoo translation is correct

After deciding the Japanese symbol for your tattoo, it is time to look for its appropriate translation. You can open books or search its meaning on the internet. However, you should understand that not all symbols have direct written meanings so you have to search for its right meaning using other books. Once you find its meaning, compare it with other books and make sure it is accurate.

Look for online catalogs

Online catalogs contain all the translations for Chinese and Japanese language. Before choosing among Japanese tattoo symbols, always look for its meaning using online catalogs. Just in case you find difficulty in searching it, you can consult a translator or a person who has a wide knowledge about Japanese symbol.

People of Japan are superstitions when it comes to symbols and Japanese tattoo symbols are great ways to express your feeling and fashion. However, you should bear in mind that tattoos are not meant for a short period of time. These figures will be inked to a specific part of your body for a long period of time or for a life-time. These tips are made to help you avoid mistake when choosing one for your tattoo. But above all, the decision is still yours.

The History of Tattoos Over Time

How old is the practice of tattooing? Probably older than what you could guess. Otzi the Iceman lived around 50 centuries ago (3300 BC) and his mummy was found with 57 tattoos on it. Most of them were straight lines, but he also had a cross inside the left knee. Fancy huh?

There were other mummies found with tattoos as well. Most of them found in the Eurasian territory. As we progress in time more advanced designs like animal forms start to appear.

Countries that have an old culture of tattooing include China, Egypt, Philippines and Japan. In Egypt, for example, archeologists found the mummy of Amunet containing several dotted tattoos over her body. The priestess lived around 2000 BC.

Another region with a particularly rich tattooing history is the Polynesia. Many consider the Polynesian tattoo artists among the most skilled in the world. In many of those islands getting a tattoo was a symbol of prestige, and even noble families would have them. The word tattoo itself is thought to be derived from the Polynesian "tatau," which means to mark on something.

Over the centuries the tattooing practice spread around the world. The Romans, for example, started using tattoos to make their slaves, so that if they fled the army would be able to identify and punish them. Later in the Republic period Roman soldiers also started getting tattoos.

During its first years inside the western society the practice of tattooing carried a stigma, as it was used mostly by specific groups like sailors and criminals. Recently that stigma is getting removed, though, as celebrities and the general public started adopting tattoos as a form of art and expression.
