Why is My Tattoo Fading?

The most common problems with permanent pigments is that the best ones usually are unsafe for use on humans. This in turn leaves the industry with only a few other safe options. Most times, very light fast and permanent colors are being used. This is not always the case, however. When it comes to purples, yellows, oranges or magenta, the fading is still not very high. The most common cause to fading of tattoo colors is Ultraviolet Light, most commonly from the sun.

This does not mean that once you get your tattoo you have to stay away from the sun forever. It's just means that excessive exposure to sunlight will fade your tattoos over time. The tattoo will fade at approximately the same rate as your skin degrades when it is exposed to sunlight too much.

Another known fact is found during the application of the actual tattoo. I have personally noticed that the more experienced the artist, the better the application of the pigments and the less fading will occur over time.

Many people often say that their tattoo looks a lot older than it really is. What I usually say to this is that they probably have exposed themselves to way to much sunlight, did not take proper care of it during the healing process or the artist simply did not have the experience and applied the pigments incorrectly.

Over time your skin ages and with it so does the tattoo. That simple, it's a fact. If you want your tattoo to look good as long as possible take care of your skin, keep it moisturized, reduce exposure to the sun and choose your tattoo artists wisely.
