Where Can I Find Tattoo Designs?

Embarking on a new tattoo is a decision not to be taken lightly. With approximately 35% of tattoo collectors regretting some of their tattoos, I cannot emphasize enough the need to thoroughly plan your design.

There are a number of factors to consider. These are as follows.

1. Design choice.

2. Size.

3. Body placement.

4. Tattoo artist.

That's it really. Those are the most important ones.

Cost? Well, if you can't afford what you really want, then save up. Don't go for something you're not really sure of just because it's a cheaper option.

Pain? Tattoos hurt, period. Again, if it's something you really want, get through the pain. Don't choose something you don't really want just because it's smaller and will hurt less.

At the end of the day, your tattoo artist will be able to gauge whether your handling the pain whilst the tattoo is in progress. If it's too much, you can always split the sessions into more manageable chunks. It will take longer to complete but you'll still get the tattoo you want.

So, you'll see that I've put design as number 1 in the list. Without the initial design idea it's difficult to progress on to the other factors. But you may be asking yourself, "where can I find tattoo designs?"

You have a number of options, much more in this day and age. When I first began my collection back in 1987 there was only one option, go to a tattoo artist's studio.

Some options are:

1. Online tattoo galleries.

Some are paid sites whilst there is a lot that you can view for free. You won't necessarily be able to print off the design from a free site, but you can certainly get some inspiration.

2. Tattoo exhibitions.

These take place all over the world and are a great place to visit and absorb the world of tattooing. You can meet artists, view designs, and see real tattoos in the flesh. A quick search on the internet should give you details of any expos coming up near you.

3. Out in the public.

I have frequently garnered tattoo ideas simply by seeing friends tattoos. I don't necessarily copy their designs, but they have given me flashes of inspiration. Another idea is to visit an area where people are most likely to be showing off their tattoos, such as a public beach or an outdoor pool area.

4. Tattoo studio.

I have a number of local studios where I can find tattoo designs on the walls and in the picture books that pique my interest. This is how I did it back in the day and old habits die-hard. I use the online galleries, but I'm more likely to visit a tattoo studio's personal website where I can see evidence of the artists work. At the end of the day, there is nothing like popping into a real studio and seeing tattooing in action to get you inspired.
