Tattoos are fast entering the mainstream. Once you get your tattoo ready, it is entirely your own responsibility to protect it from any kind of infection or injury. Your tattoo artist has got nothing to do with tattoo aftercare. Your tattoo is an open wound and vulnerable to bacterial infections. Thousands of needle pricks in your tattoo can be home to air born bacteria. Bandage applied by your tattoo artist should not be removed for at least two hours. You may feel an urge to remove the bandage quickly and show your tattoo to your pals. However, patience will certainly result in a healthy tattoo and save you from a regular itching that might have been coming your way.
Plastic wraps applied over a tattoo should be removed as soon as possible. They are no good as bandages. A plastic wrap leads to suffocation and your tattoo may take longer to lose its wound status. After removing the bandage, wash your tattoo with lukewarm water and use antibacterial solution if possible. Blood and plasma stains in and around the tattoo should be removed carefully. Complete hygiene around tattoo area will ward off any future problems.
Liquid bandages are sticky and often lead of the suffocation of wound. Suffocation of the tattoo wound means absence of air and possible abscess infection. Removal of liquid bandages is also difficult. During the tedious process of removing a liquid bandage, skin is ripped off at several places. This bandage fails the mere purpose of healing the wound because healing has to begin all over again. Liquid bandage can also damage your tattoo.
Waterproof bandages are worth trying. They are adhesive bandages and come with attractive designs. Waterproof bandages are thin and porous. Your tattoo will always have enough air to breathe when it is covered by an adhesive bandage.
