Tattoo is a marking or a design on a part of the body. There are two types of tattoo, non-permanent and permanent. Non-Permanent or temporary tattoos are done by making a decorative design on the outer layer of the skin which is the epidermis, this lasts for days to weeks. Permanent tattoos are done by injecting an indelible ink into the dermis layer of the skin which creates a design later on. Tattoo came from the word "Tahitian" (tatu) which means to mark something, no one knows how it began but there are claims that tattooing existed since 12,000 years BC. In recorded history early tattoos are found in Egyptian in Egypt. Today tattooing is done by a tattoo artist.
There are different designs of tattoos one of them is gothic tattoo design and its purpose also varies in different cultures. Greeks before used tattoos as a communication some as a sign power and place in a community. Decoration to the body and a form of art in some country like Japan they used tattoo before to mark criminals.
Gothic tattoos started in late 1970's, this represent a subculture that developed in both United States and Europe. Gothic tattoo designs have different categories; this shows the different ideals of different cultures. Fantasies this design is mystical ideation represented by the characters in the literature for example elf, dragons winged characters, and fairies. Religious design which shows the ideals of the person to religion, this design is mostly cross in different styles; some cross designs has a skull and a flower that is encircled to it. Another category is called the occult; this design is often related to witchcraft and the four elements which is the air, fire, water and earth. Witchcraft, tarot, oracles pentacle which is the five pointed star, this is not showing evil; these are just ancient religion that existed before Christianity. Today gothic tattoo designs are still used and unlike before tattoos nowadays are tinted with different colors, this add to the life and beauty of the tattoo of the person.
Most of the time people misunderstood this design as dark and anti Christ but the real meaning and idea of this is to enlighten the view of things such as death that this is a natural part of life and beauty, a deviation on what is touted as the ideal. By just looking on the gothic design on the body of the person fascinate you, their different design influence by different cultures reflect their ideals, their beliefs on things, their perception of beauty and on how do they look unto life.
A tattoo is all about individualism. Take that away and you just have ink. That's why you want a tattoo design that looks amazing now and in the future.
