5 Tattoo Removal Methods I Have Tried and Their Cost

1. Tattoo With Water - Since I first started tattooing I have heard people say a tattoo can be removed by tattooing water or milk into the skin over the offending tattoo. Being a tattoo artist this was the first method I tried, I tattooed first water then alcohol into the tattoos on my fingers, with no results. It burned a little and the area was sore but the tattoos did not get lighter.
Results: Fail
Cost: $0

2. Sand Paper - This is a tried and true method of tattoo removal called dermabrasion. I have to admit I simply do not have the pain threshold to bare such a painful procedure. I tried a few strokes with an emery board but found it impossible to really work the sander into my flesh.
Results: Fail
Cost: $0

3. Acid Peel - I started researching tattoo removal online and came across acid peels. This is also a procedure you can have done by a professional. I bought a bottle of acid peel off of eBay it came with instructions both for tattoo removal and face peeling. I followed all the instructions and applied the acid to my fingers. It burned very badly and turned the surface of my fingers white. The next day the white area over the tattoos crusted over and flaked off. After a week or so it was completely healed but the tattoos looked basically the same. Over the next month I tried the acid peel several more times violating what the instructions called for and making the treatments very strong. The pain was increased, The results where slightly better.
Results: Sort Of Worked
Cost: $28

4. Tattoo Removal Cream - I figured maybe if the acid peel did not work I should go with one of the larger companies that specialize in at home tattoo removal. I went to the shiny web site and bought the shiny package. I followed all the instructions it did not burn or hurt. The cost was pretty high considering I saw no results.
Results: Fail
Cost: $178

5. Laser Tattoo Removal - After being very unhappy with all my results I decided to bite the bullet and get laser tattoo removal. The cost of laser removal has apparently come down quite a bit as I was quoted at only $50 dollars per square inch, a year earlier I was quoted three times that. The tattoos on my fingers where about three inches combined so the cost was $150 per treatment. The first session was very painful with the after care being even more painful. The second session was equally as painful, and the third session was the worst yet. The results have been unbelievable the tattoos on my lower digits are all but gone and the other tattoos are quit faded. The pain factor is off the charts and the cost is a tad high if you require several treatments. The results of laser tattoo removal are amazing (see the pictures) and well worth the cost.
Results: Amazing
Cost: $450
